I have this rule that my son knows about when he is playing outside. He cannot leave the backyard without asking permission if he feels like playing with the neighbor's kids, just so he can learn to be responsible.
I happened to notice that he was talking to one of the neighbor's kids over the fence. I called my son over with an intent to remind him of the rules. He comes and bursted in anger and tears. I was totally caught off guard. He tried to punch and hit me while he was crying. I immediately took him inside. He threw the biggest temper tantrum.
Through tears, he was telling me the neighbor's kid was being mean, taunting him basically. The kid told my son that he could never play forever, and the dogs will chase him away.
I basically told my son that he is not allowed to go play with the mean kid again.
Ugh. How do I protect my kid from the meanness of some? Any advice?
